Mission statement
The Balkanski-Panitza Institute for Advanced Study (BPIAS) is an international non-profit body registered in Bulgaria, dedicated to the promotion of excellence in sciences, humanities, and social studies. Established by prominent European and American academics and public intellectuals gathered in the French town of Fourges on 20 June 2011. The the Institute is an autonomous association which brings together institutional and individual members.
BPIAS’ mission is to foster state-of-the art research across disciplines by providing an intellectually stimulating environment and resources to both established and early-career scholars. It seeks to make a lasting contribution to the advancement of sciences and technology in Bulgaria and the wider region. The institute partners with other academic institutions, including other advanced studies’ centers, the NGO sector, government agencies, businesses, international and EU bodies, and programs supporting scientific research in a variety of fields. BPIAS convenes a wide range of research events and hosts visiting senior and junior fellows.
BPIAS is headed by an executive board of seven distinguished members coming from academia, business, and civic organizations, including a President, Secretary and a Treasurer.
